The Støtek Alumelter is a high efficiency bale out furnace for melting and
holding aluminum. It can also be used for Magnesium and Zinc.
The standard furnace is fitted with Støtek block electric resistance elements, and comes in four standard sizes: 300Kg (660 lb), 500Kg (1,100 lb), 800Kg (1,764 lb) & 1,300Kg (2,865 lb). However, smaller crucibles can be fitted in each of these sizes. Larger furnaces are also available. There are also four power ratings: 54kW, 90kW, 115kW and 165kW
Melting and holding efficiency is extremely high. To melt to 700oC (1292oF) requires about 0.4kWHr/Kg (0.18kWHr/lb), and gives melt rates up to 410 Kg/Hr (900 lb/Hr). Temperature regulation of the molten metal is with a digital PID controller. A separate analog controller maintains the element temperature, ensuring a long working life. Holding power is between 5kW and 11kW depending on the furnace size. The furnace is constructed of a rolled steel shell, and layers of high efficiency thermal insulation, castable and refractory brick, make it very durable. The block elements are designed to replaced from above, without the need to remove the crucible, though the element design coupled with their low running temperature gives exceptional service life. An available metal leakage detector will give an alarm if any metal pools in the bottom of the furnace. A WeekWatch timer is also available, allowing the furnace to hold at a lower temperature between shifts, and to them ramp up to working temperature automatically, prior to the next shift beginning. The furnace can also be supplied with gas or oil burners. A tilting version, the Alumelter-K is
also available.
